Recruiting and guarding

Once a Vehicon’s trust is maxed out it joins your squad. If it’s a patrol leader, its whole patrol joins too.

You can have up to 5 recruits by default, which the maxSquadSize gamerule changes (0 means no limit). When your squad is full, a Vehicon that trusts you won’t join until you have room, and you’ll see your squad is full when you give it something. If a patrol only partly fits, the leader joins first and the rest stay behind on their own.

  • Recruits follow you around in formation and fight with you.
  • They match your speed on foot, on the road and in the air. If you’re faster than they normally are, they speed up (up to 75% past their usual top speed) so they don’t fall behind.
  • When you’re driving or flying with them, they switch their headlights on and off when you do.
  • If you go through a Ground Bridge, Nether Portal or End Portal, any recruits within 32 blocks head for it and come through after you. Guarding or leashed recruits stay behind.
  • If they fall more than 64 blocks behind, or you teleport away with an ender pearl, chorus fruit or /tp, they come out of a small Ground Bridge next to you.
  • If you leave the dimension, log off or die, they wait where you left them until you’re back. Guards stay at their posts.
  • While you’re within 16 blocks, they follow your lead with other players. They only attack someone you’ve hit, someone who’s hit you or someone who’s hit one of them.
  • They won’t mine or grief inside your team’s base (within 48 blocks of a teammate’s bed or respawn point).
  • If a wild Vehicon gets angry at you, your recruits get between you and it and push it back until it calms down.
  • If a teammate gets you below half health, your recruits step in. They’ll use their fists first, then weapons if the teammate keeps going.
  • Right-click a hurt recruit with an Iron Ingot to repair a quarter of its health, like an Iron Golem. Any Decepticon can do this.
  • Iron Golems leave recruits alone, and recruits leave golems alone unless one goes after you or another recruit, so you can keep them in a village.

Crouch to give orders to all your recruits within 64 blocks. It works on foot but not in vehicle mode. The order shows up above your hotbar and your recruits nod to show they got it. You don’t have to aim exactly: an attack goes to the enemy closest to where you’re looking, and if one of your recruits is in the way it looks past them. Attack and hold happen as soon as you crouch the second time, and if there’s nothing to attack or hold you’ll see no target there.

Gesture Order
Crouch twice while looking at an enemy Attack: they go after it for up to a minute, even if it’s far from you
Crouch twice while looking at a block at least 4 blocks away Hold: they spread out around that spot and guard it
Crouch twice while looking up Regroup: they stop holding or fighting and come back to you
Crouch three times while looking up Stance: switches your squad’s stance
Stance What your recruits do
Defensive The default. They fight anything that attacks you or them, and anything you attack
Aggressive They also go after any hostile mob, and any Autobot or MECH player, within 16 blocks of you
Passive They never start a fight. They only fight back when they or another recruit gets attacked, or when you order an attack

Your stance is saved, so recruits you get later use it too. Guards ignore it.

Sneak and right-click a recruit with an empty hand to make it guard. It’ll show Guarding and stay where it is. Do it again to get it following you (Following). Your other recruits move up to fill its place in your squad while it’s guarding. The Hold order does the same for your whole squad at once.

  • Put it on a lead if you want to move its post.
  • It attacks outsiders and hostile mobs within 12 blocks of its post, and every now and then walks a slow lap around it.
  • After about 30 seconds it gets to know the area. It can sense intruders through walls (unless they’re sneaking), and it’ll check out blocks being broken or placed and doors or chests being opened.
  • Teammates who hang around the post a lot become regulars, and the guard won’t bother them when they use doors and chests.

Leaders can give orders to every recruit on their team and make any of them guard, not just their own.
